COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Nationwide Children's Hospital said Ohio is on track to see a 49% increase in marijuana exposure for kids compared to 2023,even before dispensaries began selling it recreationally. In 2023, there were 234 total edible exposure cases reported to Ohio Poison Centers for children under the age of 6 years. Already in 2024, Ohio Poison Centers have managed 204 cannabis edible exposures in this age group (data updated through July 31, 2024). "I was a mess. I am still emotional about it. Just seeing your child like helpless and in that situation is just difficult." A Columbus mom who asked to keep heridentityconcealed to protect her child felt her family'sstorywas tooimportantnot to share. In March 2023, she said she got a call she never expected. Her 7-year-old son, who was attending Fairwood Elementary, wasrushed to the hospital after testing positive for marijuana intoxication.
