Training of Women Leaders on Education for the Culture of Peace by ECOWAS

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) holds a pivotal training for Women Leaders from the 27th – 29th June, 2024 at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters, in Abuja, Nigeria. The training brought together Women Leaders from the member states, who are involved in community development and peace building initiatives.

Recognizing the contributions of women in fostering peace and socio-economic development, the training aims to enhance the capacity of women leaders across member states by equipping them with additional knowledge and skills to promote a culture of peace and stability in their communities using the “ECOWAS Reference Manual on Education for the Culture of Peace.ECOWAS REFERENCE MANAUL-WEBSITE: WWW. Key sessions include guided discussions led by expert resource persons on modules such as Culture of Peace, Civisim & Citizenship, Gender, Peace & Development Perspective, and Regional Integration. The discussions are to foster strategic dialogue on enhancing peace and stability through innovative approaches and collaborative efforts.

The workshop began with an opening remark by the Honorable Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs Prof Fatou Sow SARR, followed by the establishment of the bureau and interactive sessions designed to maximize participant engagement and learning outcomes.

ECOWAS is committed to continuing the training of member states and other stakeholders on Education for the Culture of Peace, reinforcing its dedication to fostering a peaceful and integrated West Africa, thereby improving the socio-economic development of the community.
