ROLE OVERVIEW

The PO Environmental Policies, Regulations and Standards will work under the general supervision and guidance of the Head of Division Environment & Climate Change. The officer will be responsible for the development and implementation of sub regional policies, strategies, action plans in environment, climate change and natural resources. He will also assist in coordinating the development of draft harmonized regulations and directives as well as capacity development of members States for the compliance and enforcement of national and regional legislation directives in environment, climate change and natural resources.

 

ROLE AND RESPONSABILITIES

·       Support in the development of sub regional policies, strategies, Action plans harmonized regulations and directives in environment, climate change and natural resources.

·       Contribute to the mainstreaming of environmental and climate change concerns in different sectors, departments, and directorates of ECOWAS.

·       Provide support to promote communication and knowledge management for sustainable management of environment and on natural resources.

·       Support the coordination of the regional harmonization of the different standards in environment and natural resources management.

·       updating and develop environmental and natural resources statistics and indicators in the field of environmental management, climate change and natural resources.

·       Collate and compile periodic reports of the Division and the Directorate on the management of the environment and natural resources.

·       Follow up and monitor the implementation of commitments towards the Multilateral Environmental Agreements on Environment, climate change and Natural Resources Management.

·       Assist to develop capacities in enforcement of environment laws regulations and standards.

·       Undertake any other tasks assigned to him by the Head of Division or the Director.

 

ACADEMICS QUALIFICATION AND ECPERIENCES

·       Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or related fields from a university of recognized standing.

·       5 years of relevant professional responsible experience dealing with environment issues.

·       Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to corporate sustainability and environment.

·       Proven experience in technical guidance, situation analysis and environmental impact assessments;

·       Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter.

Be below 50 years old. This provision does not apply to internal candidates.

·       Proficiency in information communication technologies (ICT).

·       Fluency in oral and written expressions in one of the ECOWAS official languages of the Community (English, French & Portuguese). Knowledge of an additional one will be an added advantage.
