30 Jan, 2025

A delegation from the Association of Former Members of Staff of the Bank for Investment and Development of the Economic Community of West African States (EBID), known as AAMPB for short, was granted an audience on Thursday 23 January 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria, by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray.

The delegation, made up of Mensan Kintoyon Amegavie and Jean Milas N’Guessan, President and Advisor respectively of the AAMPB, came to introduce the Association to Dr Omar Alieu Touray. The Association was created on 2 November 2018 and has its headquarters in the building of the said bank in Lomé, Togo.

According to Mensan Kintoyon Amégavie, the ambition of the AAMPB is to act as a link between former staff and the new generation of EBID officials. Through this action, the AAMPB intends to capitalise on the years of experience of its members, by making them available to EBID for all activities where their know-how is needed, he said.

After clearly explaining to Dr Omar Alieu Touray the objectives, aspirations and activities carried out each year by the AAMPB, Mr Amegavie proposed a win-win partnership with the ECOWAS Commission.

‘The Commission will be able to call on the expertise of members of the AAMPB, whose experience and professional skills acquired over many years are beyond doubt, to support’, said the President of the AAMPB.

Mensan Kintoyon Amegavie presented Dr Omar Alieu Touray with the list of names and a copy of the AAMPB yearbook, while suggesting the many areas in which former EBID staff members could make a valuable contribution to the ECOWAS Commission.

On behalf of the AAMPB, he took the opportunity to thank the President of the Commission for his efforts to promote the development of the West African region.

Dr Omar Alieu Touray commended the initiative to set up the AAMPB and welcomed the proposed partnership, which would enable the ECOWAS Commission to benefit from the experience and advice of the Association’s members.

He asked for the support of the AAMPB and encouraged its members to share their thoughts with him, to ensure better management of the challenges hampering the development of West Africa.

‘West Africa is a family; it must stay together and stick together. No one is strong alone. We are only strong when we are together. We will do everything in our power to overcome the difficulties facing the West African community’, stressed Dr Omar Alieu Touray.
