ROLE OVERVIEW

Under the Supervision of the Head of the Division Environment and Climate Change in the accomplishment of the tasks of the Division relating to the prevention of pollution and the monitoring of the environment

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Contribute to the implementation of regional strategies and the Integrated Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Management Plan.

·       Assist Member States in the development and implementation of National Strategies and Integrated Management Plans for the management of chemicals and hazardous waste.

·       Assist Member States in the implementation of Multilateral Agreements on Hazardous Wastes and Chemicals emission thresholds from fixed and mobile sources.

·       Promote fuel savings to reduce pollutant emissions.

·       Co-organize Forum on Best Available Practices/Best Environmental Technologies.

·       Support the animation of the Consultative Group for the management of Pollution and nuisances.

·       Animate the Platform for the Management of Chemicals and Hazardous Waste.

·       Support the Coordination of the preparation of the report on the state of the environment.

·       Support the development of Member States National Reports.

·       Development and coordination of the implementation of regional projects in the field of chemicals and hazardous waste.

·       Contribute to the mobilization of resources for the implementation of regional projects.

·       Strengthen the capacities of the focal points of the Member States in the implementation of the relevant Sustainable Development Goals.

·       Assist the Head of Division in certain technical meetings within the framework of the implementation of the International Conventions on Chemical and Hazardous Products.

·       Develop the annual program, the activity report and monitoring-evaluation of the unit.

·       Any other task assigned to him by the Division Manager.

 

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·       Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or related fields from a university of recognized standing.

·       5 years of relevant professional responsible experience dealing with environment issues.

·       Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to corporate sustainability and environment.

·       Proven experience in technical guidance, situation analysis and environmental impact assessments;

·       Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter.

·       Proficiency in information communication technologies (ICT).

·       Fluency in oral and written expressions in one of the ECOWAS official languages of the Community (English, French & Portuguese). Knowledge of an additional one will be an added advantage.

·       Ability to develop and implement an individual action plan for achieving specific work goals.
