ECOWAS Commission President attends 21st Ordinary Session of UEMOA Heads of State Summit in Abidjan

Abidjan, 13 July 2019. The President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, took part in the 21st Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) held on 12 July 2019 in Abidjan, Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.

The meeting, chaired by His Excellency Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire and Chairman of the UEMOA Authority of Heads of State and Government, was attended by the Heads of State of Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo, and the Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau, representing the country’s Head of State.

Several Ivorian authorities and members of the statutory Council of Ministers, UEMOA Commissioners and Heads of UEMOA Institutions, and the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) also took part in the session. The summit of UEMOA Heads of State was also attended by BOAD, CREPMF (Regional Council for Public Savings and Financial Markets), members of the diplomatic corps and international organisations.

Aside from attending this important meeting, the ECOWAS Commission President discussed issues of common concern with the Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau and the Governor of BCEAO.

President Brou was also received by His Excellency Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger and Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, to follow up on issues raised at the 55th    ordinary summit of the organisation, held in Abuja on 29 June 2019.
