As part of the celebrations marking ECOWAS 50th anniversary the ECOWAS Youth and Sports Development Centre is organizing the third edition of the ECOWAS International Marathon in Abuja on March 1, 2025.

This major sporting event aims to promote the fundamental values of ECOWAS, such as the integration, sustainable peace and socio-economic development through sport. The ECOWAS International Marathon is an initiative open to all nationalities and encourages the participation of both genders, in an inclusive and unified approach, which is designed to bring together the citizens of West Africa and beyond, in a spirit of solidarity and regional cooperation.

The marathon offers two race categories suitable for all levels of participants:

  • A 5 km race: This race will start at Eagle Square and finish at the ECOWAS Commission in Asokoro, Abuja.

  • A 21 km race: This race will start at the ECOWAS Commission and return to the same place at the end, giving runners an immersive experience in the heart of Abuja.
